Senior Pets

As your pet ages, it will have different needs and concerns. A Senior Pet Workup is recommended yearly for our older companions. This exam will include:

  • Comprehensive exam including arthritis assessment
  • Nutritional consult
  • Vision and hearing exams
  • Lab work – CBC, blood chemistry, urinalysis, fecal analysis and thyroid test
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Chest x-rays
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)

There are a number of age-related concerns may develop in your senior pet. Symptoms such as increase in water intake or urination, decrease in appetite, sudden weight changes, lameness or trouble rising, blood in stool or urine, breathing heavily while at rest, dull coat, coughing during excitement can be cause for concern. Always keep in mind that aging is not a disease. Any changes that you notice should be brought to the attention of the veterinarian.
